European Union Tightens Internet Censorship
Never mind China and Iran. The greatest threat to free speech on the Internet may be the European Union:
“Extremist content” means content that the left-liberal bureauweenies who run the European Union don’t like. That could include Islamic State recruiting videos, but it could also include common sense commentary from people like Pat Condell.Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and other internet companies must show the European Union within three months that they are removing extremist content more rapidly or face legislation forcing them to do so.
Given the Orwellian nature of the EU, demands to censor content so as to secure “fundamental rights” are ominous.“While several platforms have been removing more illegal content than ever before … we still need to react faster against terrorist propaganda and other illegal content which is a serious threat to our citizens’ security, safety and fundamental rights,” Digital Commissioner Andrus Ansip said in Thursday’s statement.
Euroweenies want “hate speech” removed within 1 hour of notification. That doesn’t leave much time to distinguish content that poses an actual physical threat (e.g., ISIS bomb-making tutorials) from opinions that some bureaucrat doesn’t find sufficiently left-wing.
On a tip from ABC of the ANC.
Isnt this what they do right before they start murdering everybody ?
