If the Dems had two cents worth of common sense

Well, I know the title makes this thread a work of science fiction, but let's have a dream:

If -and I repeat, that's a mightily improbable if- the Dems had two cents worth of common sense,
now that they've got the House, they should troll Trump mercilessly on his financial connections to Russia:

• full audit of the Trump Company, with a special focus on all sources of Russian income and financement.
• full audit of Trump's personal tax returns, with a check on eventual Russian help to avoid personal bankruptcy
• full review of all transfers of wealth and assets by Frederick Trump to his children, specifically to one Donald.

(if the facts are too old to be prosecuted, at least let's know
a- by how much Trump defrauded the IRS
b- to what extent, after wealth transfers and inflation, Donald Trump never earned a dime by himself)

All along, the Dems should take their most businesslike behavior,
taking the stance of mature and kind adults looking into the mess of a slightly retarded juvenile delinquent.

If the Dems persisted in this without ever looking hysterical (again, not a given),
they could drive Trump nuts. Well, nuttier than he already is.

Now if Mueller could come with some juicy indictments on top, Trump would go bonkers. banana.

Let the games begin.

If they had any sense they'd have played to lose the midterms. The American economy will nosedive in 2019 regardless of who is in power, but Trump will successfully paint it as the fault of the Dems. That seems to be modern politicians for you. Grab power whenever you can instead of playing the long game and then seizing power for a generation.

Agreed.

It's very likely Trump's debt-fuelled extension of Obama's recovery might crash in 2019.

But then, there's the nightmare scenario:

a- the bubble doesn't burst in 2019
b- Trump manages to fire up the proles over some proxy fight with China or Zimbabwe
c- Trump gets reelected in 2020, the bubble bursts after and there's no adult in the room to handle the mess.

Stupid, vainglorious Trump would have then managed to screw the West for generations.

The bubble has already burst. The Dow Jones has lost all of this year's gains. That is excellent news for Trump. A near 10-year bull market has to drop sometime. I think that most thought that it would correct itself rather drastically; instead what has happened is a rather gentle correction without affecting the real economy. No doubt it will fall further bringing a recession eventually, but it could be quite mild compared to a depression that a really rapid and drastic fall of the stock market would bring.

The ironic thing is that Trumps corporation tax cuts, the bulk of which went towards stock buybacks prevented a stock market crash. I somehow doubt that that was his intention but it worked anyway.

Now, in reality the Dems can try to investigate based upon a bullshit narrative but as the God Emperor said today, any attempts to do so will be met with investigations into their actions and crimes.

That's where I find Trump almost touching.

Yes, he's a filthy con man, but there's still got some glimpses of the stupid, gullible boy he once was.

Trump is trumpeting what he fears the most. Which is exactly why this thread suggests to just do it.

Boy, oh boy, I dunno if you're trolling (as is, alas, your most unfortunate habit) or if you're serious 'bout it?

That would hand the 2020 election to Trump on a gold platter.

I wish your wish comes true.

PS: Apparently you missed Trump masterstroke to go so successfully for the Senate while letting the Dems have (barely) the House and therefore being in the position of being blamed for anything bad that might happen.

Trump IS a genius. His presser this morning was pure gold. 87 minutes of joy. Even Reagan was a baby compared to Trump's communication skills. Truth be told, politically, both are the bestest Prez ever:

Bill Lee (born October 9, 1959)[3] is an American businessman and politician who is the Governor-Elect of Tennessee.[4] A Republican, Lee is a fiscal and social conservative.[5] Prior to entering politics, he held various positions at the Lee Company, his family's construction company, serving as CEO from 1992 to 2016.[6][7]

Early life and career
Lee was raised on a farm in Fernvale, Tennessee, and attended Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. He was named CEO of his family's construction company, Lee Company, holding the position from 1992 until 2016.[8] He briefly served as Chairman before announcing his campaign for governor in April 2017, campaigning on a socially and fiscally conservative platform.[8] He won the August 2, 2018 primary with 289,699 votes, or approximately 36.7 percent of the vote.[9] He has served as the 7th Congressional District’s representative to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission in addition to being on the Board of Trustees at Belmont University in Nashville. He has served as president of Tennesseans for Economic Growth, chairman of YMCA of Middle Tennesse, president of the Associated Builders and Contractors and has served on the board of several community organizations including Hope Clinic for Women, Men of Valor Prison Ministry, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Operation Andrew among others.[10]

Lee is also active in Triple L Ranch, a fourth-generation family farm founded by his grandparents. Triple L Ranch operates a 1,000-acre, 400-head Hereford cattle operation, providing natural beef to farmers markets and restaurants throughout Middle Tennessee.[11][12]

Lee lives in Fernvale with his second wife, Maria, whom he married in 2008. His first wife died in 2000 in a horseback riding accident. Lee describes his wife's death as one of the most painful moments of his life, and he took time some off from his construction company to raise his four children.[13] He has four children.[10]

Top priorities

Marsha Blackburn
Fight to ensure existing immigration laws are followed, stop sanctuary cities, and deport illegal immigrants who commit crimes.

Confirm strict constitutionalist nominees to the courts who will uphold the Constitution, not legislate from the bench.

Make our tax code simple, fair, low, and permanent. Our tax policy should encourage job creation.

Except that voter suppression and gerrymandering by Republicans have reached new heights.

I'm all for Dems losing as much and as often as possible, but not through blatant cheating.

If the Reps were honest, and the Dems less stupid, they'd all agree on a compulsory national ID card for all.

No more vague accusations of Clinton's 3M popular vote win being illegitimate.

Oh, btw, despite baby Donnie buying an extension of Obama's recovery on debt, 2018 = +3.8M votes for the Dems.

Well, if you do not subscribe to the rule "one man, one vote", sure, equating two votes migh seem strange.

If you think 1 vote in Wisconsin is worth 100 in California, no problem.

But what if the shoe was on the other foot, my Trumpie friend?

Anyway, do you know Roger bananas?

Well, now that you mention it... :D

Senate and House elections are mostly local. I say mostly because in some case like Jared's (Ivanca's hubby) look alike a.k.a. Beto tries his luck in Texas armed with $85M from California and New England and still lose to a guy that is probably the biggest dick of them all (but pretty good at what he is doing). So it's silly to add up votes from Fargo to votes from Palm Beach: that means jack shit.
