Presidential Rankings Post WWII

Post by Richard » Sat Jun 30, 2018 9:24 am

In a new Quinnipiac University Poll, 33% named Obama the worst president since World War II, and 28% put Bush at the bottom of post-war presidents.
"Over the span of 69 years of American history and 12 presidencies, President Barack Obama finds himself with President George W. Bush at the bottom of the popularity barrel," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

Ronald Reagan topped the poll as the best president since World War II, with 35%. He is followed by presidents Bill Clinton (18%) and John F. Kennedy (15%).

Obama received only 8% in the best presidents poll.
The Quinnipiac poll also reports that 45% believe the nation would be better off had Mitt Romney defeated Obama in the 2012 presidential election; 38% say the country would be worse off with a Romney presidency.

Worst president since 1945? It’s possible, but LBJ did a metric ton of damage.

Conversely, the GEOTUS already has a resume that places him near the top of the all time lists.

If you get down to it Bill Clinton's sexual proclivities, Al Gore's lack of charisma gave us Dubya and therefore Obama and now Trump.

I say poor Dubya. If Papa Bush didn't have to deal with Ross Perot, there would have been no need for Dubya.

Divine Providence is fucking mysterious isn't it?

I will never understand the JFK adulation I guess I look at the Cuban Missile shit as being almost the end of civilization. The guy didn't know we put nuke missiles in Turkey which is supposedly why the Russians armed Cuba.

I have no doubt that, decades from now, Trump will be solidly at the bottom of the barrel.

Right now, he's surviving as the life raft of the besieged southern/rural white Christian.

So yes, this constituency has a doggie-like devotion to him and hates Obama.

But ultimately Trump's protectionism will backfire and his graft/collusion will be out.

A mix of Nixon, Harding and Hoover can't possibly fare well.

These things are irrelevant. Thatcher gets highly rated while doubling the national debt and increasing the size of government by an extra 2% of GDP at a time when we were awash with money. John Major, on the other hand, is barely mentioned. He only cut back the state and our finances back to where they were before Thatcher tried (and damn near succeeded) to bankrupt the country. Nothing like shouting loudest and wrapping yourself in the flag to be remembered.

I hate to say it, but mikgof is right. Why does it bother me to say it?

Because I made my bones as an undergrad supporting Gilder/Thatcher/Reagan/Friedman
against the best trained hardcore Socialist teachers anyone can produce.

Was I wrong? Were Gilder/Thatcher/Reagan/Friedman completely wrong? No.
The Reagan/Thatcher revolution broke the back of quasi-Commie unions.
They killed overly punitive tax rates and stood up to the Russkis.
(something the bought baby Donnie isn't doing, but let's not argue)

Was I right? Were Gilder/Thatcher/Reagan/Friedman completely right? No.
They were right in that free trade and low taxes benefit the economy as a whole.
But, and that's a big but, they, and I, forgot two key things:

-1- they forgot to cut spending to match the tax cuts. Deficits are a LT poison.
-2- they forgot to implement safety nets for those paying the price of adaptation.

And the (2) is what feeds the leftist loons. Causing a greedy, selfish Trump backlash.

In short, it's the idiot GW who found the magic formula: Compassionate Conservatism.

It's the West's loss that nobody actually really implemented it.

(Obama came close, but in a feckless and irresolute way,
giving far too much leeway to the demented SJWs)

Obama is the best president ever.
The mind is like an iceberg, it floats with one-seventh of its bulk above water.
